VETERANS Honored at Butte Elks Lodge this Weekend

Here's a class act way to honor our veterans this week! This Saturday, November 12th, a Veterans' celebration dinner, and dance will take place at the Elks Lodge in Butte. Please show your support for the men and women who have fought for our country, and continue to do so with this honorable gathering. The Marine Corps Reserve will also be on site for their TOYS FOR TOTS Butte Campaign fundraiser. Here's the breakdown: A No-Host Cocktail Hour will begin at 5 p.m., a Flag Ceremony at 6 p.m., Dinner at 6:30 p.m., followed by LIVE music at 8 p.m. by JST Us. All proceeds from the Veteran's celebration dinner and dance at the Butte Elks Lodge (206 W. Galena) will be donated to the TOYS FOR TOTS FUNDRAISER presented by the Marine Corps Reserve. Here's another part of the fun! All attendees are asked to donate a new/unwrapped toy. This means more fun for you in picking out a cool gift!

As illustrated in The Museum of the American G.I., when Germany and the Allies ended World War I on November 11th, 1918, by signing a ceasefire agreement, it was concluded that this victory happened at the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month," giving the world good reason to celebrate it as such. By 1919, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11th Armistice Day! Then as presented by the online site va.gov, World War II veteran Raymond Weeks, in 1947, petitioned to then-Army General Dwight D. Eisenhower that November 11th should honor all veterans living and dead, and not just World War I veterans. With that, the first National Veterans Day event took place in Week's hometown of Birmingham, Alabama, to include a traditional Veterans day parade.
