30th Annual Big Hole Valley 4th of July Celebration a Go in Wisdom
When you imagine what the 4th of July is like, in small-town America, the picture that pops into your head may very be well one of what's really happening in the Big Hole Valley this 4th of July. From an early-morning flag-raising ceremony to fireworks to close out the day, make your way to Wisdom if you want a celebration away from the city this Independence Day.
The 30th annual celebration in Wisdom starts early. 6:15 am is the flag-raising ceremony with a free pancake breakfast to follow at Fetty's on Main Street in Wisdom. And then come the parade and barbecue. And when I say small-town America, I mean the parade is local folk with their horses, tractors, and buggies loaded up with friends and family cruising through town. There is no entry fee for the parade, scheduled for a 10 am start. Those interested in taking part are asked to meet behind Larry's Automotive by 9:30 and don't forget to wear red, white, and blue.
After the parade, there will be a fundraiser BBQ cookoff at Katie Joe Coon Park with food served around 11:30 am. The food will be served potluck style. The Big Hole Valley Fireworks Celebration is happening again this year. Things will fire up around 8 pm with Country Music, a softball game, and a bonfire. Head to the Wisdom Airport, about a mile out of town on Hwy 278, and bring your own BBQ food items and beverages if you wish. The fireworks are scheduled to start around 10:30 pm, but please DO NOT bring your own fireworks. Donations for the Fireworks show are being requested! You can Mail a check to BHva PO Box 193, Wisdom, MT 59761. Donation boxes are available as well at the businesses in Wisdom and Jackson.
