Butte High School will be back on the hardcourt tonight as they battle the Capital Bruins.

Capital tonight, followed by Helena High on Saturday will mark the midway point of Western AA play.

Here is a look at the current Western AA girls’ standings:
Hellgate          5-0
Sentinel          4-2
Capital            4-2
Helena High   3-2
Flathead         3-2
Glacier           1-4
Big Sky          1-4
Butte              0-5

The Capital Bruins come to the Mining City after a pair of emotional games, a 43-28 loss to crosstown rival Helena High School last Friday, and a heart-stopping 44-42 win over Missoula Sentinel on Tuesday. Junior Gracie Mockel was the leading scorer in both of those games for Capital, getting 14 against Sentinel, and 11 versus Helena.

Senior guard, Jada Clarkson enters tonight’s contest as the Bruins’ leading scorer, averaging 11 points a contest. Clarkson is shooting 40% from the floor and hitting 40% from the arc. Megan Swanson checks in at 8 points a game, Taylor Sayers at 7, and Kayla Almquist at 6 points a game for the Bruins.

Capital is a disciplined basketball team that will bring aggressive on-ball pressure. Good ball movement will be key for Butte High, to battle through that pressure and in turn, get some good looks.
When Capital and Butte High meet, you can always guarantee that both teams will give you everything they have for 32 minutes.

The Bulldogs return home to entertain the Bruins tonight, having lost 6 straight games, 5 of those in conference. Their last time on the floor was Friday in Missoula against Sentinel a 43-28 loss. Defense was the tale of the tape in that ballgame, as Sentinel held Butte High to 3 points in the second quarter.

The Bulldogs are getting stronger in the offensive zone each week, with more and more ladies contributing each game. The Seniors continue to battle. Payton Clary, Emmarie Richards, and Laura Rosenleaf entered the season with significant playing time from a year ago, and are playing well, but we see some of the youth stepping up each week. Sophomore Brityn Stewart has had a great year, and young Cadence Graham continues to earn more playing time.

Butte High is led by Emmarie Richards in scoring at 10 points a game, Laura Rosenleaf is getting 8 points, and 10 rebounds a game, and Brityn Stewart is up to 7 points a contest.

Varsity tip-off is scheduled for 7 pm at Ross Richardson tonight.
