
Butte Central sets weekly sports slate
Butte Central Catholic High School has posted their weekly activities schedule which is heavy with conference basketball contests plus wrestling and swimming on the weekly slate.
WRESTLING
The BC wrestlers will be taking part in the Class A Duals meet on Friday and Saturday which will be hosted by Park High School in Livingston. Matches will begin at 10am on Friday and 9am on Saturday.
SWIMMING
The Maroon swimmers will be competing in the Butte High Invitational on Saturday. The meet will take place at the Butte Family Y.M.C.A. with events beginning at 12pm.
BOYS BASKETBALL
After an 0-3 start to the season the undersized Maroons are beginning to gel and come into Thursday's varsity basketball contest in Frenchtown with a 4-0 overall mark and a 1-0 record in conference play. Coach Brodie Kelly's team is shooting the lights out from behind the arc and are led by sophomore guard Joshua Sutton who is a blistering 47% from behind the arc. Sutton leads the team in scoring and rebounding at 18.2 points per game and 6.4 rebounds, respectively. Senior guard Owen McPartland is putting in 15.9 points and 4.5 rebounds per game and junior guard Ryan Peoples joins them in double figures in scoring at 11.5. Frenchtown, after blasting out of the gates at 5-0 has dropped 2 of their last 3 games with losses to Dillon and Columbia Falls. The varsity contest starts at 7:15pm which will be preceded by the frosh game at 4:15pm and the JVs at 5:45. On Saturday the Maroons will host the Hamilton Broncs in another Southwest A contest with the frosh game at 1pm, the JVs at 2:30pm and the varsity contest at 4pm. Hamilton is 4-4 overall.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
The Maroon girls will be hosting Frenchtown at the Maroon Activities Center on Thursday and, like the boys, are coming in hot. Butte Central is 3-5 overall but have won 2 in a row including a double-overtime thriller over Anaconda and a blowout of the winless Stevensville Yellowjackets. The Maroons are led by sophomore Rylee Forbes with 8.9 points per game and 10.9 rebounds, freshman guard Kenzie McQueary with 7.4 points per game and freshman forward Zayonna Otherbull who averages an even 8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. Frenchtown is 6-2 overall and coming off an impressive overtime win over the Dillon Beavers. The varsity game is at 7:15, the freshmen play at 4:15 and the JVs at 5:45. On Saturday, the girls will host Hamilton with the varsity game part of a doubleheader with the boys starting at 5:30pm. The frosh and JV contests will be at the Butte Civic Center and will start at 1pm and 2:30pm, respectively.
