As the Royal Motel fell today to the hands of a local construction crew on the corner of Harrison Avenue and Elizabeth Warren,, the face of this particular stretch of Harrisonuth Avenue has changed just a little bit more.  I'm talking about the stretch between Holmes Avenue, where Thrirftway and Silver Bow Pizza stand, south to Elizabeth Warren, site of today's demolition.  Remember the businesses that used to stand on some of these spots?  How many can you name?  Answers are at the bottom.

Where the gigantic Town Pump Food Store and adjacent Magic Diamond Casino and Sports Bar now sits was once the site of a smaller, quieter establishment where you could sit at the small bar and enjoy a cocktail and even take something to go in a brown paper bag.  It lasted until the late 1990s.  Can you name this quiet watering hole?

2.  MONTANA CLUB

Now a place of sit-down dining and fine cocktails, the site of the Montana Club once was home to one of Butte's most rocking dive bars in the 1990s through its closing in the early 2000s.  This place was once home to such legends as Wayne Brothers and the Nite Life Band, Outlaw and many more.  Can you name this "birdly" establilshment?

3.  TOWN PUMP EXPRESS CAR WASH

This one is multiple choice.  The land directly south of Silver Bow Pizza has seen many businesses come and go, most in the form of restaurants.  There were 2 that took up business here under the first name of a lady.  One was a sports bar.  One was an all-you-can-eat buffet.  Can you name one?  Can you name all?

4.  BANK OF BUTTE

Where the bank of Butte now stands, just south of Thriftway, once stood a popular bar/cafe, again bearing just a single name, this one of a gentleman.  Until it was torn down right around the turn of the century, this "place" was a great spot for a quick bite, a cold drink or sometimes even a night of karaoke.  Can you name this spot?

5.  THOMAS'/STAPLES/PETCO

This busy shopping plaza was once home to one of Butte's most famous supper clubs under the ownership of a true Butte character.  It had the name of a bird, like the place next door where the Montana Club now stands, but it was a, well, a bird of a different color.  Can you name the supper club?  Bonus points if you get the owner's name.
