Chamber asking Butte to step in to assist TSA Employees
Regardless of where you stand politically it is hard to argue that people, particularly honest and hardworking people, should be asked to report to their jobs without compensation. Yet due to governmental bickering and deadlock this is exactly where 13 local Transportation Security Administration employees find themselves.
These are not run-of-the-mill employees doing menial work. These men and women are the ones trusted to keep us safe in the skies, a crucial, high-stress job that on the best of days is testing on a number of levels. For weeks they have have shown true dedication simply by showing up for work and for weeks they have gone without pay at the expense of their own families and the Butte Chamber of Commerce has had enough.
The Chamber is asking Butte businesses and communities to "show up for those who show up for us" and is collecting donations at the Chamber/Visitors Center at 1000 George Street in support of these hardworking individuals and their families. You can help with a donation although TSA employees are still under strict regulations and cannot accept cash or cash equivalent gift cards. They can, however, accept other donations. The most needed items (must be $20.00 and under) include:
- gas cards
- grocery store gift cards
- general store gift cards.
Every small gesture will make a big impact helping our 13 neighbors out with fuel for their commute, groceries for their families and a little peace of mind during a difficult time. Consider making a donation to show these 13 individuals and their families that Butte truly appreciates and supports them.
