The Eastside Athletic Club at 3200 Dexter in Butte will be the site of a cornhole tournament and benefit for lifelong resident John Maloughney who has recently been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.  The events will take place on Saturday, September 30 with registration at 11am, competition at noon and events throughout the day including a silent auction, raffle drawings and entertainment.  Participants in the tournament must be 18 years of age or older and cost is $30 per team.  Preregistration is available at the Eastside as well as Uno's Lounge, McQueen Athletic Club and the Butte Depot.

In February, John was diagnosed with high grade leiomyosarcoma.  In the time since, he has had a tumor surgically removed and is awaiting chemotherapy treatments.  In addition to the astronomical medical costs associated with fighting and beating cancer, John's medical team is based in Seattle, Washington which means even more travel, food and hotel expenses for the Maloughney family as John continues his fight.

But John will fight, and he will fight hard.  He has done this before.  Yes, back in high school, Maloughney fought and beat a different type of cancer, an aggressive form of colon cancer.  It was not only John's incredible strength that helped him win, but his attitude.  Everyone who has ever been asked to describe John always brings up his smile first.  The kind of smile that puts others in a better mood.  The kind of smile that will help him beat cancer for the second time.

Items are needed for the raffles and silent auction.  If you are interested in helping in any way, please contact Mandi Maloughney at (406) 221-6938 or Hayden Maloughney at (406) 221-6563.  If you are interested in making a cash donation an account has been set up at Rocky Mountain Credit Union under "Medical Benefit for John Maloughney.
