Dougie sets single game points record, Maroons torch Corvallis for 15th in a row.

Days after breaking "Jumpin'" Joe Kelly's school record for all-time points, Dougie Peoples broke Mike McLeod's decades old single-game scoring record and the Butte Central Maroons won their 15th straight game by putting the mercy rule into effect on the Corvallis Blue Devils winning 82-53 Wednesday night at the Maroon Activities Center.

Peoples and the Maroons simply exploded to close out the first quarter going on a 22-0 run that stretched all the way to the 3:27 mark of the second that included a thunderous backdoor dunk by senior Kyle Holter to start the period giving him 2 of his 10 points on the night and putting the Maroons up 25-11.  The game was the second in a row that the 6'3 forward brought the crowd to it's feet with a dunk after hammering one home against Livingston last weekend.  "That one was on the other side, but it was pretty similar," a grinning Holter said after the game.

Perhaps the only thing that could have overshadowed Holter's above-the-rim antics was the shooting of Peoples who simply put on a show.  Peoples would hit 7 three-pointers, slash his way to 4 successful "and 1" situations and go 12 of 13 from the free throw line on his way to 44 points and a new school single-game scoring mark.  Mike McLeod who has held the record for over 4 decades after his 42-point outburst in the early 1980s against the Deer Lodge Wardens was in attendance and had nothing but praise for the new record holder. "His mother will tell you that for two years, I was praying that he would break it," said McLeod after the game. "He's the best.  I love him.  I do and I mean that sincerely," a grinning McLeod added.

Dougie was all smiles coming out of the locker room and was happy to have the former record holder on hand.  "Mike McLeod has always been so good to me so its cool to have him here," Peoples said.  "It's a really special moment."

Butte Central will be back in action at home against Stevensville on Thursday night.
