Let's just say that if you like to watch softball, you're going to be in heaven in the days leading up to Mothers' Day 2024 as the Butte Central Maroons host the annual Laverne Combo Invitational next Friday and Saturday, May 10th and 11th.  5 fields will be used as 26 Montana high school softball teams from all over the state compete in a total of 48 games.  Or, 240 innings if they all go the scheduled 5.  That's a lot of softball.  All three Stodden Park fields will be used as well as the Ed Austin and Helen Austin fields just southeast near the former site of the Longfellow School.

Do you have a friend or relative who will be competing?   A complete listing of schools, rosters and results can be found here along with tournament information and even updated scores as the games progress.

The tournament is named in honor of Laverne Combo who in decades of service at Butte Central led everything from the twirlers in the 1960s to the Spring Musicals as late as the 1990s.  She was a matriarch, a friend, and along with her dear husband, Gitch, an inspiration to young Maroons through several generations.

Here's a look at the Butte Central Maroons schedule for the Invitational:
