Oredigger men and women climb in national rankings. Here is how they did it.
The latest edition of the NAIA national basketball rankings have been released and the Montana Tech men and women have both moved up, the men jumping to No. 6 and the women entering the Top 25 at No. 21.
NO. 21 WOMEN (4-0)
The Oredigger women are only 4 games in but already making waves by dumping a pair of quality teams at home and following that up with a pair of road wins the ensuing weekend. The Tech women opened the season on Halloween by thumping No.15 Southern Oregon 67-52 and the following night beating College of Idaho, who is receiving votes in the poll, 70-60. Last Thursday the Diggs hit the road and destroyed Walla Walla 88-43 and followed that up with a 75-49 road win at Whitworth on Saturday. Their no. 21 spot is the highest in school history as it is the first time that they have received enough votes for a numbered ranking.
UP NEXT: The women have this weekend off before hitting the road for their first conference games of the season next Friday, November 21st at Mayville State and the following evening at Valley City State. They will return home to Kelvin Sampson Court on Friday, November 28th playing the first part of a Frontier Conference-East doubleheader with the Oredigger men against the Montana-Western Bulldogs.
NO. 6 MEN (5-0)
The Oredigger men are back in the top 10 after opening the season at home with an 86-83 win over Eastern Oregon on October 25th. In Dillon, the Diggers got an 84-65 win over No. 14 Southern Oregon and an 84-58 win over Warner Pacific. Last weekend, as they hosted the Best Western Tip Off Classic, the Diggers got a 76-68 win over Ottawa University of Arizona and an 83-70 victory over a very good LC State team.
NEXT UP: The Digger men are home this Friday against Northwest University with tipoff set for 5pm.
