It's definitely an exciting time to be a consumer and a customer in Southwest Montana.  Over the past year we've seen a huge influx of construction and new businesses coming into the Mining City.  In fact, with this month's earlier opening of the new Chipotle Mexican Grill we saw the unofficial christening of an entire new shopping district in the Cornerstone Plaza.  Butte is definitely being noticed by some of the region's major retailers.

While I am excited to see these new businesses open, it's also a good time to remember the businesses that already make up the local shopping scene, particularly the locally owned and operated ventures and especially during the holidays.  These are the ones that are often overlooked in an era of online shopping and big box stores.  A great way to support these businesses is by taking part in Small Business Saturday which is set for November 29th.  It's a great way to get ahead on your shopping list, find some great deals and maybe even win a prize basket full of wonderful local goods and services.

Shoppers will be given a "Small Business Passport" which will be used to collect signatures at many of our area's small businesses, many of them offering exclusive day-only deals.  You can get your passport when they announce the list of participating businesses at 9am that morning at the Elks Lodge, 206 W. Galena or at any business that is taking part.  Most businesses will have complimentary snacks and/or beverages and a very festive atmosphere is always a big part of the fun.  Many new surprises are planned this year as well.

The best part is that the money you spend in our local economy stays here in our community, helping our neighbors.
