It is nothing new to be reading that the price of groceries is going through the roof.  Inflation has been something that we've lived with all of our lives but recently prices just seem to be out of control and getting higher as we speak.  It doesn't seem to be that long ago that a can of Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup at WalMart in Butte was less than 50 cents.  It is well over a buck now and this is true from soup to, well, nuts.

These prices hit families hard, but what about those of us who are on a fixed income?  What about those of us who dutifully served their time in the workforce, paid into Social Security and now find themselves, in their Golden Years, hungry?  It's a fact.  Senior poverty and food insecurity, which should be unthinkable in such a working-man's town as Butte, is something that many deal with every day.  The Belmont Senior Center is doing its part with affordable lunches, but even with funding through the Older Americans Act nutrition programs only 274 of the 4300 meals they serve monthly are covered.

The Belmont Senior Center is a non-profit and any donation you can make to keep the Meals on Wheels and their senior lunch programs funded would be greatly appreciated and would make a big difference in the lives of our most treasured citizens.  Please consider dropping off or mailing in a donation to the Belmont Senior Center at 615 E. Mercury here in Butte.  If you would like further details or information, please call them at (406) 723-7773.
