The love of music and the opportunity to rehearse and perform with other people is a joy that everybody should get to experience.  Sure, playing in a band is a lot of fun and, if you are lucky, can lead to a little extra spending money.  What really makes the experience special, though, is the friendships that are built, almost naturally.  When I was growing up in Butte in the 1980s, there was always someone who wanted to get a band together and there were many opportunities to do just that.  We would head to somebody's basement or bedroom and put together songs with dreams of being the next Eclipse, Wanted or Tyrant.
Today, music has changed, and opportunities have become fewer and fewer but for kids and even adults who want to live the band experience there is a group of people you should really get to know.

THE BUTTE MUSIC EXPERIENCE

The Butte Music Experience (BMX) is a performance-based music education program thoughtfully designed for students to discover the joy of playing and performing music in a group band setting. The program consists of organized weekly rehearsals where students will learn music by having songs assigned and playing them with other students. Each season culminates with live concerts where all students will play for friends, family, and music lovers. BMX is a music program for all skill levels, ages, and musical aspirations, and has specific programs for kids and adults.
BMX has 3 seasons, each 4-months long.

WINTER SEASON FINALE CONCERT

The BMX Winter Season is in its final weeks and will culminate with a showcase concert that is a great show even if you just want to sit back and watch.  The show is this Friday at the Covellite Theater at 7pm.  All of the BMX students will perform including the Saturday kids whose band name is the Sea Serpents, the Monday kids who go by The Seekers and a small, hand-picked group of kids who are the "show band" who you may have even seen around town performing as the BMXtra Terrestrials.  The show will also feature a performance from the Sunday adult group whose moniker is SedimenTerry.  All in all, over 30 students will be performing, and for many of them this will be their first time performing live.  Come support the community of burgeoning musicians in Butte, America.
