ADA Compliance Lunch Seminar coming to Butte August 6th
What does the Americans with Disabilities act mean to Butte businesses? Well, let's take a look at what the act means.
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was passed in 1990 and is a major civil rights law that helps protect people with disabilities from discrimination. It’s similar to the Civil Rights Act, but specifically focused on making sure people with physical or mental impairments are treated fairly in everyday life. The ADA covers five main areas: employment, public services (like buses), public accommodations (like stores or restaurants), telecommunications, and miscellaneous provisions. Basically, it ensures things like wheelchair ramps, accessible restrooms, and equal job opportunities are standard for those with disabilities, not special favors. Employers cannot turn someone down just because of a disability if that person can do the job with reasonable accommodation. And if you're in a wheelchair or visually impaired, you still have a right to access public places and services. The ADA helps make sure people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else—and that’s a big deal.
