Butte Exchange Club’s “Field of Honor” an impressive sight
2023 marks the 100th anniversary of the Butte Exchange Club and the work that they do simply improving the community. Construction and operation of the Municipal Golf Course can be attributed to the Exchange Club as can our city's first traffic light and even the establishment of the World Museum of Mining back in 1963. Their work continues in a big way today through thousands of dollars of donations each year to community youth projects and programs including the Student of the Month, Student of the Year and ACE awards, the Spirit of Christmas program and even nuts-and-bolts work such as building the fence at the YMCA and upkeep of our beautiful new carousel at Stodden Park. Again this year, the Butte Exchange Club is behind the breathtaking Field of Honor on display now adjacent to the Belmont Mine just off of East Mercury.
The Exchange Field of Honor is a tribute to the strength and unity of Americans, veterans; currently serving military, first responders, law enforcement, personal heroes and victims of child abuse in Montana.
The Field of Honor is indeed a breathtaking sight. A literal sea of red, white and blue representing our military, first responders and personal heroes of Southwest Montana certainly gives us pause but it is the circle of white flags representing victims of child abuse that brings home the proximity and frequency of child abuse, even right here in Butte.
The Field of Honor is free to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and is around "to provide the community with an opportunity to honor our personal heroes, to express Butte’s unfailing patriotism, and to provide a time of remembrance and healing." Get up and see this display before it's taken down on Sunday.
