Butte’s Miners Union Day set for June 16 at World Museum of Mining; Vendors/Civic Groups wanted.

To say that labor and workers' rights were issues in the early days of Butte would be an understatement.  Although a respectable percentage of the world's wealth has been taken from underneath our city by Copper Kings, companies and corporations, the Mining City has never really been about the big guys.  Butte is a miner's town.  A working man's city.  Always has been and always will be.  And the Butte working man has not always been treated fairly by the big guy.  This is why unions were formed and why they flourished here.  At one point, Butte was known as the "Gibraltar of Labor".  So, you can imagine Miners Union Day was once a pretty big deal.  And as far as the World Museum of Mining is concerned, it still is.

Miners Union Day will be celebrated Saturday, June 15th at the World Museum of Mining which, in itself, is also a pretty big deal.  Nowhere else will you find the history, relics and stories that is contained within her walls, but on the outside is the "Hell Roarin' Gulch" where you can walk the streets of a mining boomtown and see how life was.  The museum also holds the actual Orphan Girl Mine which is the only mine in America where you can take an underground tour.  These incredible exhibits will be on full display and a jubilant crowd is expected.
