Details on the Butte School District Drivers Education classes
Butte Drivers Education will open registration for the upcoming 2023 Summer Drivers Education Program on April 7th at 8:00 am. Registration will stay open until April 18th at 6:00 pm.
After the registration is closed, parents and students will be notified of their driver’s education status via the email address listed on the student’s application. Registration links will be sent by email to all Butte High Students, and the registration will be available on the district website.
According to the district website, acceptance in the program is prioritized by age.
Upon completion of the Drivers Education course, the young driver will then be issued a learner’s license. A teen with a learner’s license can only be supervised while driving by a licensed parent or guardian. The learner license is good for one year but must be used for a minimum of 6 months with 50 hours of supervised driving.
You can track your 50 hours of practice driving on paper, or there are mobile apps as well. For IOS devices you can use “RoadReady”, and for Android devices, you can use “ Fast Track Driving Log Free”
After the minimum 6 months and 50 hours of supervised driving, the teen may then apply to drive independently with a GDL Restricted license. Teens can drive on the GDL license for one year (or until the driver turns 18) The GDL license has a few conditions, there is a driving curfew from 11 pm to 5 am (as darkness increases crash risk), it also comes with a passenger limit of 1 for the first 6 months, and 3 for the next 6 months.
Upon successful completion of the steps listed above, or when the driver turns 18 years of age, they then can receive a full privilege driver’s license.
Again, the online registration begins on April 7th, and registration links will be sent by email to all Butte High Students and will be available on the district website.
