Digger Basketball to unveil Championship Banner during tonight’s Volleyball match
Here's what the men are doing from a release from the Montana Tech Athletic Department:
BUTTE, Mont. – The Montana Tech men’s basketball team will lift their most recent championship banner honoring last season’s accomplishment Wednesday at the Oredigger volleyball match. The Oredigger’s take the court at 7 p.m. with the gates opening at 6 p.m.
The Oredigger men’s basketball team won their second straight Frontier Conference regular season and tournament titles last year. The dual back-to-back championship has only happened one other time in program history. Winning all 18 home games last year, Tech has won 30 straight contests on Kelvin Sampson Court. The Orediggers finished with a 12-3 record in conference action tying the best conference record in program history. Tech went on to win their second consecutive Frontier Conference Tournament last season reaching the NAIA National Championship for the second straight year. Montana Tech went the furthest any Oredigger basketball team has gone in the post season reaching the NAIA National Championship Quarterfinals in Kansas City, Missouri. The Orediggers finished with a 29- 5 overall record, the best record by an Oredigger basketball team in the history of the program.
The Frontier Conference Championship banner will be unveiled between the first and second set of the match.
And what a match it's shaping up to be. Montana Tech (14-2, 3-0) is ranked 9th in the nation and on Saturday gave Rocky Mountain College their first conference defeat of the season. They will face the Montana-Western Bulldogs (15-2, 2-1) who are receiving votes in the latest coaches' poll but have not cracked the Top 25. The Orediggers topped the Bulldogs in 5 sets earlier this year at the Frontier Conference Preseason Tournament in Dillon. Tickets will be available at the door tonight starting at 6pm.
