Getting to and around at the Montana Folk Festival in Butte
The Montana Folk Festival is finally here along with the question of "how in the heck do we get there"? The festival is spread out over the northeastern part of Uptown Butte but as we all know, parking and mobility can be an issue. How do we get there and where do we park? Here is a map of all of the locations of the festival. As you can see, it covers quite a bit of area. Here are the best bets for getting there and for getting around once you're there.
Uptown Butte has available parking, but with crowds of this size it is safe to assume that all of the spots close to the event area will be spoken for. And if you do find a spot, it could very well be blocking an uptown resident's driveway. Please do not do this. The Uptown Parking Garage is a good option for drivers as it is relatively close to the festival, but even the garage has peak capacity, and you may find yourself on a bit of a hike. A good way of avoiding this is to use the free shuttle service that will be running from the Butte Civic Center to the festival grounds. The Civic Center has plenty of parking and by using this option you will certainly end up with less of a walk. Plus, you'll be avoiding all of the crazy uptown traffic.
Once you get to the festival, it is a given that you will be doing a bit of walking. But if you are in need of assistance getting around, there will be many on-site shuttles to get you where you need to go. Just remember to leave a couple of bucks in the donation bucket so we can keep the Montana Folk Festival free and in Butte for many years to come.
