Is Hwy 55 in Butte ever going to open?
Does anybody remember when McDonald's opened in Butte back in 1985? I was in the 8th grade. I remember that there used to be a gasoline station there and then one day it was torn down and the area was fenced off. Then the construction began and slowly the building took the familiar shape of what could only be a McDonald's, and a big one at that. At that time, in addition to having to walk to school uphill both ways, you would have to drive, bike or hitchhike to Helena, Bozeman or Missoula to get a Big Mac. So, when it was announced that it indeed it was a McDonald's, well, it was one of the happiest days of my chubby little life. Now imagine that the building was completed, the Golden Arches hoisted, the parking lot paved and lined and then, silence. I would have been devastated. If Arby's wouldn't have opened up a few weeks prior, I probably would have more than likely cried. Which I did a lot of in the 8th grade, but that's a different story.
Now that I'm older, I can't help feel that excitement when a new restaurant comes to town, especially one that has cheesesteaks. Cheesesteaks AND burgers? Sign me up. So when Hwy 55 Burgers, Shakes & Fries put up a building last year, I was in heaven. But then it just...sat there. And sat. And still it sits. Here's a Facebook post from April of last year as people were already eagerly anticipating its opening.
Well, here we are in mid-January and still the building remains inactive. But we did get a post last month about a potential February 2024 opening.
So, it's looking like it's a staffing issue. Are you interested in working there? Here's a link to apply. But get it in quick. I really want a cheesesteak.
