The hardworking men and women of our Law Enforcement and Fire Departments have a longstanding history of working side-by-side on a daily basis in the service of Butte-Silver Bow.  From responses to medical emergencies and structure fires to day-to-day planning and observations, firefighters and police officers work together to ensure our safety.

It also goes without saying that while working in such close proximity while dealing with life-or-death situations. there exists a bit of competition between the two departments.  While their drive to out-do the other department on the job can help with efficiency and results, sometimes the rivalry can extend to other things.  Like charity.   Anyone who disagrees can watch film of the "Pig Bowl" full-contact football fundraiser the departments held a couple of decades ago that produced hits and tackles that would make the '85 Bears blush.  Or the basketball fundraiser that almost turned into a football game in the 4th quarter.  While more blood is expected in their next undertaking, it is a bit different this time.

You have to admit, while this way requires more public participation, it is a much more productive way of bloodletting.  Make your appointment now for the Police vs. Firefighters Blood Drive at the Maroon Activities Center, 550 E. Mercury, on Thursday, November 14th from 11am until 4pm.  This is another event being put on with the help of Shawn Muffich of Vitalant who would be happy to make your appointment by email at smufiich@vitalant.org.  Fastrack your appointment for an even quicker trip and encourage your friends and family to do the same.
