Butte Kiwanis/YMCA to dedicate camp basketball court to Sam Todorovich
Here in the Mining City we have several athletic facilities that are named after Butte legends. Obviously, Three Legends Stadium, home of the Butte Miners, has the word right in its name. Montana Tech boasts Bob Green Field and Kelvin Sampson Court in honor of a pair of coaching legends. Butte High has Naranche Stadium, Butte Central, Torger Oaas Field. But the Sunrise Kiwanis are naming their expanded outdoor court not in honor of a coaching legend, but a Butte kid with a passion for life who was taken from us far too soon.
Sam Todorovich was a Butte kid with a zest for the outdoors. He was a favorite of peers and administrators at the summer camp held annually at the Sunshine Kiwanis Camp south of Butte. But Sam was not only a competitor but a leader as well, bringing together a group of campers who had a very simple request: a bigger basketball court to have more room to enjoy their games and drills in the beautiful Southwest Montana sunshine. Their request has been granted.
Unfortunately, young Sam was taken from us early last year but his memory, spirit and enthusiasm will live on through the very basketball court he wanted to see grow. And what an impressive court it has grown into.
The full-court asphalt playing surface is perfect for young campers and has a pair of high-quality outdoor field goals and backboards. The court will be named in memory of Sam Todorovich on Wednesday, June 25th at 6:30pm. Supporters are welcome to attend the ceremony at the Kiwanis Sunshine Camp, 270 Passmore Canyon Road.
