Sturtz with Moping Mechanism performing Friday at Covellite Theater
Harmony and captivating instrumentation will be the name of the game on Friday night at Butte's Covellite Theater as Sturtz along with Helena's Moping Mechanism will be on the big stage. If you're not familiar with their works, here is how the artists are described:
STURTZ
Sturtz’s music stands out for its distinctive, soothing instrumental and vocal harmonies. NPR’s All Songs Considered described the band as “a reassuring breath of fresh air that pulls me back to simpler times." The acoustic quartet – Andrew Sturtz [vocals, guitar], Courtlyn Carpenter [cello, harmonies], Will Kuepper [bass, harmonies], and Jim Herlihy [banjo, harmonies] - is serene and folksy, with melodic vocals soaring over the lower string instrumentals. Sturtz released their debut album You’ve Done this Before in August 2021, and now they are hard at work recording a second album. When they’re not playing music, you’ll probably find them milling flour, farming, laying in a creek, or eating native foliage.
MOPING MECHANISM
Hailing from Helena, MT, Moping Mechanism is an indie rock outfit crafting music that's both raw and introspective. They draw inspiration from artists like Pinegrove, Jason Molina, Bright Eyes, and Gillian Welch, weaving together elements of indie rock, grunge, and alt-country to create a sound that's uniquely our own.
"We create intimate, emotional live performances where we can connect with our audience on a deeper level."
