What many may not know is that Murphy's charitable work as the leader of the "Connecting for the Cancer Cure" golf tournament has lasted as long as her seat at the end of the Maroons bench. While trophies are not won for fundraisers, Murphy's annual event would be nothing less than a dynasty and the good that has come out of the last 17 years may be even more important than her state championships. Over those years, Connecting for the Cancer Cure has raised over $240,000 to help the St. James Cancer Center and their patients.

One of the best events of the summer, Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Butte's annual "Rhythm and Brews" Festival gets underway at noon Saturday at the Original Mine Yard and will run until late in the evening featuring everything from a huge car show, live music from 4 different acts, a kids play area and, of course, a wide selection of microbrews and more to help keep you cool on a hot late summer day along with some of the areas best food trucks and even yoga and exercise.

Meg Murphy has been spearheading an incredibly fun and successful fundraiser for the St. James Cancer Center. A fundraiser that for the past 16 years has raised over $200,000 for the center and its patients and created the first ever Cancer Center Endowment Fund at St. James. The fundraiser has helped create a consultation room for patient privacy, it has helped kickstart Southwest Montana's only lymphedema program, has helped to bring mobile mammography to Southwest Montana and has helped countless cancer patients in their time of need. Meg and her crew owe its success to its sponsors and participants. This fundraiser is incredibly fun and if you want to take part, you better act quickly.

The celebration will kick off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Butte Chamber of Commerce at 6:00 PM, followed by a highly anticipated opening concert featuring the beloved Butte band, High Ore Road, starting at 7:00 PM.
