Santa to appear at the Spirit of Columbia Gardens Carousel this Saturday
Growing up in the mid 1970s and early 1980s in Butte was indeed a special time, particularly around Christmas. I remember vaguely the decorated headframes on the hill, each mine trying to outdo the others as I recall. I remember any given weekend at the Butte Plaza Mall with a crowd of shoppers and kids busily making their way through Woolworth's and Skaggs Drugstore and the dozens of smaller stores in between like Jeans, Etc., Orange Julius and, of course, the Dungeon Arcade. And, of course, there was Santa. Santa, it seemed, was always there. If you couldn't catch him at the Plaza, you would surely be able to join the line of kids at the old JCPenney on South Harrison or even at Ben Franklin's on Park Street Uptown. Today, it seems Santa is a little harder to find, even harder than Ben Franklin's or Penney's. Butte's Spirit of Columbia Gardens is hoping to change that.
This Saturday, the Spirit of Columbia Gardens Carousel will have Santa Claus on hand to greet Butte's children and get their wish lists from noon to 3 and the entire family is invited. The Carousel will be running, and the gift shop will be open and is a great place to find Butte-related items that are perfect for out-of-town friends and family members. Their Butte-centric gifts and souvenirs can truly offer unique gifts, even for those who are hard to shop for.
Bring your appetite as well because a variety of snacks and treats will be available at the Coaster Cafe along with several areas for your family to sit down and eat together.
