Spring storm wreaking havoc on Butte prep sports schedules
Okay, seriously, what's with the weather? We're used to a little sprintime snow, but what we're seeing today, well, what is there to do but sit back and complain? Well, for starters, we can start to take a look at what the weather is doing to the area's sports slate and complain about that.
For about ten minutes, it was looking like Butte High and Butte Central would make history by competing against each other in the first-ever MHSA baseball contest for either school. Well, that won't be happening. In a note from Butte Central Activities Director Chad Petersen, not only has Monday's game against the Bulldogs been postponed but their contest at Dillon which was scheduled for Saturday has also been moved to an indefinite future date. Petersen added that with the Spring Break/Easter Holiday looming and the contests that have already been postponed, it may be a few extra days before makeup dates are added to the Maroon slate. It's a similar situation with the Bulldogs. As previously announced, their scheduled home game for today against Belgrade is on the back burner as is Saturday's contest against at Lone Peak which will also be moved to a future date. Also postponed are Saturday's Great Falls-CMR at Butte High girls' softball game and Saturday's Belgrade at Butte tennis competition. In track and field, the Bulldogs are still tentatively a go for Saturday's Butte/Hellgate/Sentinel triangular meet in Missoula, but Butte Central's plans for a Saturday at the Frenchtown Invitational have been spoiled as the meet has been cancelled with no plans for a makeup date. Butte High is still scheduled to travel to Great Falls to face the Great Falls Bison in softball.
