It’s time for the Bulldogs to battle the Knights.

The Hellgate girls come to town with an 8-2 record in conference, and a 10-4 record overall.

First things first, Hellgate is Big. Led by Alex Covill at 6’6”, the Knights have 3 - 6 footers on paper and are a matchup nightmare to most everyone. Covill leads them in scoring at 16 a game, she also accounts for 10 rebounds a game. (5’11) Sophomore Chloie Larsen checks in at 13 points a game for the Knights.

Hellgate ran off 7 straight wins to start the conference season but has since gone 2-2, with wins over Capital and Sentinel, and losses to Helena High (2 points) and Flathead (1 point).

The Butte High Girls grabbed some great momentum as they rumbled into the second lap around the conference. I am not sure what it is about that crosstown game, but all the Butte teams come out of that game better, and Butte High is a great example of that.

The Dogs had lost 8 straight going into the Butte Central game. A nice win over the Maroons started the ball rolling, and they then took that momentum into a great win over Glacier. In tight ball games with Flathead, and Big Sky the Dogs continue to get better as a team. With 4 games remaining (3 at home) the Dogs will look to keep getting better when it matters, tournament time.

I love looking at the scorer’s book for Butte High each game. Every game it gets deeper with more contributors. Sophomore Brityn Stewart has had a great season and has torn it up lately, with 18 against Big Sky and 16 vs. Flathead. Sophomore Dylann Bartoletti put up 11 against Big Sky, and 8th Grader Cadence Graham finished the Flathead game with 13. You mix those young ladies in with Seniors, Emmarie Richards, Laura Rosenleaf, and Payton Clary, who can all manufacture points, and it’s pretty easy to get excited about this Butte High Girls team.

The first meeting between the two, Hellgate dominated 60-32 in Missoula. I truly thing round 2 will be much different.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 pm tonight at Ross Richardson.
