One of the fastest growing sports in America is Pickleball.  Sounds delicious, doesn't it?  Well, terrible condiment jokes aside, Pickleball's accelerated growth is due in no small part to the fact that it is a lot of fun, it's very accessible and almost anybody can enjoy the game.  And a City Rec Pickleball league is in the planning stages.  But first, what is Pickleball?

Pickleball has been described as table tennis, but you're standing on the table.  Only the table is actually a tennis court, but a bit smaller.  It is played with paddles with a perforated ball comparable to a wiffle ball.  Pickleball is primarily played as a doubles sport, but one-on-one play is also becoming more and more common.  The rules of play are similar to table tennis in that you must serve to the opposite, diagonal side, you must be serving in order to score a point and if your serve hits the net, you reserve.  Games are typically played to 11.  The rules, though, can change depending on your company and the game can be a lot of fun to sit back and watch as well.

The Butte-Silver Bow Parks and Recreation Department is gauging the interest of the community with plans of putting a City Rec League in place.  There will be a meeting this Tuesday, November 7th at 10am at the Butte Civic Center where they will discuss play availability, participation forms and cost.  For questions of further information, please call the Butte-Silver Bow Parks and Rec Department at (306)497-6535.
