St. Patrick's Day in Butte, Montana is known for a lot of things, but when you say "color run", it may conjure up an image of green and white masses moving drunkenly from pub to pub Uptown in search of their next green beer or plate of corned beef and cabbage.  Butte Cares is hoping to change all of that, or at least to provide a healthy option for the whole family.

Butte Cares is a group of community leaders dedicated to substance abuse prevention in our community.

Substance use among our young people as well as adults, continues to adversely affect where we live, work and play.  In working together, we can build a safe, healthy, and drug-free community. - Butte Cares website

Butte Cares is expanding as well with 12 prevention specialists now working with youth in Beaverhead, Deer Lodge, Gallatin, Jefferson, Lewis and Clark, Madison, Park, Powell, Silver Bow, and most recently Broadwater, Granite, and Meagher counties to improve their health, safety and well-being.

This St. Patrick's Day, Butte Cares is putting on a color run at 3pm at Stodden Park.  In addition to being family-friendly and substance-free, the event is perfect for all ages and abilities.  There will be a one-mile fun run and also a 5-kilometer run with both courses with park boundaries and both featuring many "color stations" where participants will be sprinkled with bright powder.  There will be food, music and many events being hosted by students.  Sound like fun?  You must sign up by February 24 to be guaranteed a t-shirt and you can sign up right here.  Packet pick-up will be at the Butte Plaza Mall in front of Keenan's from noon to 6 on Thursday, March 14.  If you are unable to get your packet, they will be available race day at Stodden Park starting at noon, but you are encouraged to get yours early at the mall.

If you are interested in sponsoring of volunteering at the event, please call (406) 498-9584 or (406) 306-0017.
