Get a ride Butte: DUI & Arrest numbers from past St. Pat’s
St. Patrick’s Day is not just your average holiday in Butte, it is an event. We really do have something for everyone.
There will be a morning mass in Butte and Anaconda before their respective parades, the parades themselves, and then events for the family, for kids, and for everyone. You can find a list of fun, varied, activities HERE.
Again, there are a lot of activities surrounding St. Patrick’s Day, but we would be lying to ourselves if we didn’t acknowledge that most people in uptown Butte are there to have a good time, party with their friends, and enjoy themselves.
This is just a plea to not drink and drive.
There are so many options available these days, whether you call a cab, get an uber, or get yourself a kind-hearted Designated Driver. This year the Butte Police Department has said they will have 20+ officers on duty, with additional help from the Montana Highway Patrol. I have a feeling all those officers are going to be very busy.
This is going to be a crazy St. Patrick’s Day, there are no two ways about it. A pair of factors weigh heavily. The first is, it’s our first parade in a couple of years due to the pandemic. The second, of course, is that St. Pat’s falls on a Friday.
Historically in uptown Butte, the large rowdy (drunk) crowds mix pretty well with a solid police presence, but there are always exceptions. The arrest numbers usually fall in the 20-30 range every year. The highest number of arrests in the last decade was 52 in 2016, that included 11 DUIs (also the highest). The DUI arrest number has stayed relatively high with 7 arrests in 2017, and 7 DUI arrests again in 2018.
2014 33 Arrests 2 DUI
2015 34 Arrests 2 DUI
2016 52 Arrests 11 DUI
2017 27 Arrests 7 DUI
2018 23 Arrests 7 DUI
Don’t be part of these number, get a Designated Driver, call a cab, schedule an Uber, just don’t drive drunk.
