When selecting a spot for a gathering, weddings in particular, there are a lot of little things that people want.  Things that make the event stand out.  Things like ambience and decor can really make a reception hall stand out  And in this case, even a town's rich history and even an awe-inspiring optical illusion or two.

Butte, Montana is known for its rough and tumble mining past.  The mines in particular relied almost solely on railroads to transport ore and with Butte's population at one time well over 100,000, railway service was one of the most relied-on ways of getting to the Mining City.  And the Butte Depot at 818 S. Arizona, formerly the Great Northern Railway Station, was at the heart of it.  It is with that in mind that Bill Fisher and his family completely transformed the once-abandoned shell into one of the coolest reception halls you will find anywhere.

What they have done to the hall is incredible.  Retro signs adorn the stage area and when you look inside the ticket booth, you look into a mine shaft that seems to go on into infinity, with, "How in the heck did they do that?" being the most-heard response.  The reception area is large and accomodating and it leads into the "Bourbon Alley" lounge area whose interior is even more impressive than the reception hall.  But we'll save that for another day.

Dozens of mine headframes used to dot the Butte hill but most have since been torn down or swallowed by the Pit. Here are the ones that still tower proudly over our town.
