Prison Yard Rumble June 13 at Old Montana Prison in Deer Lodge
As far as ambiance and aura goes, this one takes that cake, possibly one with a file baked inside. Monty Klistoff, the man behind the immensely popular "Fight Kingdom" series of boxing, kickboxing and MMA events that have rocked the Butte Civic Center over the past several years, along with his crew from NXTGen Entertainment are bringing the show to the Old Montana Prison in Deer Lodge for an exciting fight card on July 13th. One that is eerily steeped in prison tradition.
Klistoff and NXTGen Entertainment reopening the legendary Montana State Prison to host "Prison Yard Rumble", a night where past and present collide inside the stone walls of one of Montana’s most infamous landmarks. How infamous?
The old Montana State Prison in Deer Lodge was built in 1871 and was home to some of the roughest and toughest characters the West ever knew. Over the decades, the prison saw violent riots, escapes, and uprisings, most famously the 1959 riot when inmates took over, demanding better conditions, leading to a two-day standoff that shook the state.
What many don't know is that boxing was once part of prison life.
Back in the early days, inmates would square off in makeshift boxing matches, a way to channel aggression, survive the long days, and earn respect behind the walls. Fists flew, reputations were built, and boxing became its own underground legend within those cellblocks.
Now, for the first time in decades, the gloves are coming back. Under the shadow of the guard towers, inside the walls that have seen it all, NXTGen entertainment is bringing the fight back to Deer Lodge.
This is more than just a boxing event. This is a night of history, grit, redemption, and Montana pride.
The Prison Yard Rumble is coming up during Territorial Days in Deer Lodge and will start at 7pm June 13th inside the old prison walls. Tickets and tables are available here.
