World Museum of Mining offering “Haunted Underground” Tours
Halloween is a spooky time of the year but especially in a town with a history like Butte, Montana. A rough and tumble mining camp with a penchant for brawls and debauchery. Many historic buildings stand today, and many are rumored to have restless spirits living within. You have no doubt heard the rumblings about the Dumas Brothel and its legendary hauntings. Check out the pictures that my buddy Devon Brosnan captured on a recent excursion.

Devon is quite the adventurer as he also captured some exclusive shots of the interior of the old St. James Hospital that are quite stunning.

Nothing against either of these two buildings. I've heard stories about both and have even seen a few strange things myself. But if you want to go where the restless spirits may be there may be no better spot than the mines themselves. The headframes are still darkly referred to as "gallows frames" in reference to the hangman as "death was ever-present in the mines," as a sign outside of the Orphan Girl Mine Headframe tells us.
Over 2500 men died in the mines of Butte over the years, 43 at the Orphan Girl alone. It is the Orphan Girl site on which the World Museum of Mining now sits, just outside of "Hell Roarin' Gulch" which is said to be haunted itself. But we're not talking about ground-dwelling spirits. The World Museum of Mining is giving you the chance to go into the mine itself and see what lies beneath.
This is the only tour in America where you can venture into an actual mine shaft but this one promises to be extra spooky as you will be venturing in at night. Near Halloween.
